Half Life Source Reimagined

r3dux | February 16, 2009

Half-life Source, the Valve re-release of probably one of the most popular and best selling games of all time was… well… it was just Half-Life with some marginally better textures and some more comprehensive lighting [thank you, source engine]. It was still very good, with the core HL elements intact n’all, -  but it had definitely dated quite considerably. The solution to this? Some enterprising individuals over at blackmesasource.com have decided to up get in there and put in new models, animations and the like to make it look super sweet…i

And oh yes. Yes it does… Can’t wait!

Sovereign Hill

r3dux |

Took a trip over to Sovereign Hill yesterday, which is a recreation of a 19th century mining town, and fair play – it was pretty good. They have a bunch of diff stuff going on like a guided tour of a gold mine, horse and carriage rides, gold pouring, candle making, musket firing, live “period” shows etc. All in all it’s pretty good – lots of people walking around in vintage costume, went on the gold mine tour, saw gold being poured and checked out all the old machinery of the battery house (where the quartz is smashed up) and the like. Decent day out =)

New Job!

r3dux |

Hurray! I went for an interview today about getting a job as a lecturer at the University of Ballarat - and I’ve got it!

Starting on Tuesday I’ll be teaching C++ part-time, and with any luck will also get to teach a class in Multimedia… I’m absolutely delighted! :) Jobs are less plentiful with all the recession malarky going on, and with the 6-month per company limit imposed by my working-visa handcuffs, it’s not been the easiest thing in the world to get interviews, but I’ve persevered, and with the help of my partner’s friend managed to get some face-time with people and convince them that I’m up to the challenge. (Thanks, Jack!!)

University of Ballarat Bumper Sticker

As the work’s only part-time, it gives me stacks of time to get on with other projects, reading etc while putting enough money in the bank to pay back some debts and invest in the occasional tank top aardvark 360 game..

Good, good stuff.
