Six Feet Under

r3dux | December 13, 2009

Just finished watching Six Feet Under with the wife last night – and WOW. What an ending… Blew me away.

There’s a lot of shows which don’t wrap up properly, don’t get to the end of storylines, leave you unsatisfied with the conclusion (yes, Battlestar Galactica, I’m looking at you) and generally just make you watch the end credits roll and feel ripped off.

Six Feet Under NAILS the ending perfectly, and bar some slightly stage-y make-up, just absolutely knocked me for six.

The bit with Nate (Peter Krause) jogging in the rear view mirror and fading out of sight especially just… I don’t know – perfectly encapsulated the transience of life, how short it really all is, and how the world will go on without us. And the music was absolutely perfect. Congratulations to everyone involved with the show – you are incredible.

Spoiler Warning: If you haven’t watched Six Feet or don’t care enough to watch it, go ahead and check out the video – but if you think you will someday, or haven’t quite got to the end yet, don’t watch this – it contains not just spoilers but endings. For everything and everyone.

On a related note, there’s a Four Tet remix of the track (Sia – Breathe Me) – but it doesn’t use the beautiful piano riff at all – I think it could have been a whole lot better, but it does add some drums and other nice bits and pieces, so it’s still very much worth a listen:
