Mine kept failing and had to google to find out that if i have spaces in directory name and is  on another drive say X:\VM 2012\source.vhd, then i have to use &quot;X:\Vm 2012\source.vhd&quot; and same for target.

so it should be:
VBoxManage clonehd &quot;X:\Dir Name\source.vhd&quot; &quot;X:\Dir Name\target.vdi&quot; --format vdi</description>
